This year flew by in a blink of an eye. We kept our heads down to focus on growth and new features and made everything fast. Let’s look at it all in this "report card” we call Gumlet Year in Review—2024. The straight ‘A’s in this report represent your support and love as much as our effort.

Highlights from 2024

Take a look at our biggest achievements from 2024. We will dive deeper into each of these points in the blog below.

  • Gumlet is freaking blowing up. The number of videos uploaded to Gumlet grew 6x, and the streaming grew 12x! We deliver images and videos to 100 million end users every. single. day.
  • Everything Gumlet is now 3x faster. We set up custom GPUs for 5x faster video processing and reduced image processing times by 3x.
  • Sustainable growth, year on year. Our inbound revenue grew 3x this year. We became profitable and welcomed world-class logos like Asics, Godrej, and Spinny as our clients. We also onboarded our anchor customers in Brazil, UAE, and Indonesia.

What’s coming in 2025

We have already planned many exciting projects for the upcoming year. These will create a big impact on your Gumlet experience:

  • Live streaming. We will keep at it throughout the year to make this product the best in the world. We will add more features in CMS, analytics, security and more.
  • Channel memberships. Gumlet is all about making your business the most money. This product is central to that goal. We plan to add many more tools and layers to it.
  • Global expansion. Creating meaningful connections worldwide also helps us grow our reach. We want to make Gumlet accessible and available to more creators across geographies.

Things are blowing up!

Website traffic and sign-ups

Month-on-month growth in organic traffic in 2024
  • We doubled our organic traffic by 100k month-on-month and saw an overall 35% increase in traffic across sources from last year.
    • The rise in our organic traffic is attributed entirely to our SEO team. They have been at it since last year, researching keywords and pushing out relevant pieces of content each week. And the results speak for themselves.
  • Gumlet's sign-ups are up 2.5x from last year, with over 15k YTD.
    • This year, we also revamped our website from the ground up, simplified our messaging, and learned to speak our users' language. Our traffic-to-sign-up ratio shot up, too.
  • The number of meetings booked increased by 10x.
    • Inbound and outbound sales have been in overdrive this year. We improved communication touchpoints for our users and made it easier for them to connect with us. This resulted in a staggering increase in meetings booked this year.

Onboarding and product usage

Adoption and onboarding for Gumlet Video
  • 3x increase in product adoption post sign-up
    • Improved onboarding and a thorough dashboard redesign by our tech and product team dramatically increased adoption and retention.
  • 6x increase in videos transcoded, 7x increase in videos stored and 12x more videos viewed this year over last.
    • We transcoded about 12 million minutes of videos this year, compared to 2 million last year. We are now storing close to 14 million minutes of videos on our servers, compared to 2 million from 2023.
  • Delivering images and videos to 100 million end users every day.
    • From delivering online newspapers at 5 AM for our media clients to streaming courses for our ed-tech users burning the midnight oil at 3 AM, we've got it all covered.
  • 3.5 billion events tracked on Gumlet Analytics.
    • Our users rely heavily on analytics for both videos and images. We now track every aspect of the media pipeline and automatically populate the dashboard for easier accessibility.

Everything is faster

All interactions across our website and dashboard are now less than 300ms. Our infra is brand new from the ground up. Its cutting edge, scale friendly and extremely reliable.

Website LCP improvement since April 2024
    • We switched our website stack to Next.js, Tailwind and Strapi. This improved page speed and LCP across the board.
    • Our dashboard now runs on S3, MongoDB and React.js. A snappy dashboard experience is very important to us.
    • Our support median response time is now 5 minutes and 44 seconds. We also set up an AI that answers instantly using our revamped docs.
Custom GPUs for faster media processing.
  • Image processing is now 3x faster. The time taken to process a fully uncached image reduced from around 0.8 seconds to less than 0.3 seconds!
  • Video transcoding is 5x faster. We also updated our custom video player. The new video player now loads in 0.081 seconds compared to the previous 0.4 seconds from last year.
  • We set up our own custom GPUs and run 70% of our video transcoding pipeline through that now. This makes video processing lightning fast now. Start streaming faster, without waiting around in upload queues.
  • API response times for p95 and p99 are now 50% faster.

Sustainable growth > Erratic growth

Revenue and growth

  • As of July 2024, we are profitable. We checked our expenses, strengthened our enterprise network, and saw massive adoption of Gumlet Video throughout the year. There is a long way to go, and we are fortified to face it head-on.
  • Our inbound revenue increased by 3x this year. Better sales and marketing workflows, a fantastic team, relevant traffic and an updated website assisted conversions.
  • We added marquee logos to our client list, including Asics, Spinny, Career Launcher, Godrej, and more.

Product expansion and updates

We launched two of the most demanded products that have the potential to be stand-alone products in the coming times.

  • RTMP Live streaming: This one was a long time coming. After months of testing, our live-streaming product is now live. It's scalable to millions of concurrent viewers, super stable, lossless and takes only a few minutes to set up.
  • Channel memberships: Create custom video channels with automatic DRM video protection. Add your video playlists, add users, gatekeep and protect your content without writing a single line of code. We see immense potential in this product and will build it further in 2025.

Our tech and product team has regularly released product updates throughout the year. Here are the highlights:

Responsive, fast loading video player
  • Brand new video player: Our custom player now loads in less than 80ms. It is also more responsive, looks better, and is way more customizable. Our player now automatically tracks all video-level advanced analytics without the need for SDKs.
  • Unlimited AI subtitles completely free: All Gumlet users can now generate AI-powered subtitles in 120+ languages with over 90% accuracy.
  • WordPress PlugIn for Video: This plug-in offers dynamic watermarking, a customizable player, and advanced video analytics, along with an embedded shortcode for Gumlet Video. Download it here.
  • Video security and privacy: We added YouTube-like privacy settings to each video with public, private, or unlisted options. We also added password protection to embed videos.
  • Integrations: We added Albato automation, One-click Wistia migration, and Google Drive import to our long list of integrations.
  • Advanced video analytics: We introduced video heatmaps, improved search and filters, reworked reports, and changed the UI for our analytics product.

Company updates

We are now 36-strong. While most of us still work remotely, about 14 of us work from Bengaluru. We got a couple of extra cabins at WeWork to accommodate our expanding team. We also had a lot going on this year other than work.

Team Gumlet at Inbound 2024!
  • All 36 of us got together for an onsite meet-up in Bangalore in August. What followed was 3 days of madness, activities, and some seriously fun stories.
  • We regularly get together for lunches and dinners here in Bangalore. Our team loves exploring new cuisines and having the company gladly take the tab.
  • We hosted a Builders' Conference in Delhi with fellow tech leaders. The topic of discussion was 'Rise of rich content in consumer apps'.

We want to take a moment to thank our clients, users and well-wishers for being a part of our incredible growth story. We are humbled and driven to continue building a world-class media delivery infrastructure and making it more and more accessible to the masses.
