What is a "Storage Minute" and how is it calculated?

A "Storage Minute" is the amount of storage used for each minute of video. For example, if a video is 10 minutes long, it counts as 10 storage minutes. It’s a way to measure storage based on video length rather than file size. This way, you can upload higher resolution videos without compromising on your storage limits. We only count storage minutes for the original video during upload. If you exceed the storage included in your plan, you’ll need to upgrade your plan. Contact us for details on the Enterprise plan if you need additional features or more storage.

How is video streaming bandwidth calculated?

Bandwidth is based on how much video data is streamed. Higher resolutions use more data; if multiple quality levels are available, more may be streamed. Autoplay and preload settings can also increase usage. With unlimited streaming available on Creator and Professional plans, there is no need to worry about video streaming bandwidth limits.

Do you charge for storage?

No, we don’t charge for storing or caching your optimized images and videos. All plans include unlimited cache storage. We only charge for the storage minutes for the videos uploaded, not to keep the videos stored on Gumlet.

Can I upload any content to Gumlet?

No, we prohibit uploading copyrighted and adult content. If we receive a copyright complaint, the content will be removed after providing a timely notice to the uploader.

Do you offer Custom domains?

Yes, you can easily set up custom domains from your dashboard. The Image Growth plan includes 2 custom domains. For video, custom CNAMEs are available on all plans at $5/month each. Additional image domains can also be added for $5/month.

How is the bandwidth charge calculated?

We calculate bandwidth as the amount of data transferred from our CDN to your users. You will be charged per GB for overages above your current plan. We do not charge for requests, transformations, caching, or storage separately.

Can I store my original images with Gumlet?

Accepted Answer

We don't support image storage. You can choose any file storage service, such as Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, DigitalOcean Spaces, or any other storage. This way, you also retain full control over your original images and won't have to worry about losing them.

What happens if my original image is modified?

Accepted Answer

We cache your original image for 3 months, so we will continue to serve cached images. You need to clear the cache through the dashboard or API to reflect the change in your original image.

I am storing my original images in Amazon S3. Will Amazon charge me each time you fetch the original image?

Accepted Answer

After fetching it for the first time, we always cache your original image in our local cache. This means if your 1 MB image is resized 3 times, Amazon S3 will only charge you for 1 MB data transfer and 1 single request. Subsequent resize operations will be performed on the cached image.

What happens if my original image is deleted?

We cache your original image for a maximum of 3 months. After that, If we need to revalidate it, it will show a 404 error. If you flush the cache after deleting the original image, it will show a 404 error for that image.

We support input images with a maximum size of 8192x8192 pixels in the following formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, JPEG-XL, TIFF, PDF, GIF, SVG, RAW, HEIF, and AVIF.

We store processed images in our cache and in the CDN cache. This ensures that if an image has already been generated, no extra time is spent delivering it.

Can serving images from Gumlet CDN (or third-party CDN) be SEO-negative?

Accepted Answer

No, it will be beneficial. Our system marks your images as originating from your website via HTTP headers. Search engines look at that header and will associate those images with your website even if the URL points to Gumlet.  
We instruct search engines about the location of original images, so they always attribute your image to your site rather than to our CDN, for a positive SEO impact.

Is there a limit to how many variants of an image I can create? Can I use my own storage or CDN?

You can generate unlimited variants of an image (sizes, formats, or transformations) on the fly, and only the original image counts toward your storage quota. Additionally, if you're on a Business or Enterprise plan, you can connect Gumlet to your storage service (like S3 or GCS) and use your CDN for streaming.
